Fruit, vegetable consumption and blood pressure in healthy adolescents: A longitudinal analysis from the LabMed Study
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jun 19, 2018
Rosário R, et al. - In healthy adolescents, researchers analyzed the correlations between fruit and/or vegetable intake and blood pressure over a two-year period. From the LabMed Physical Activity study, 606 adolescents as part of a cohort were assessed in 2011 (baseline) and 2013 (follow-up). Observations suggest that, in healthy adolescents, consumption of fruit may lower diastolic blood pressure. Greater consumption of 100g fruit decreases 0.5mmHg of DBP in girls. In preventing elevated blood pressure, fruit intake is thus suggested to be a preventive strategy.
