Frequent expression of somatostatin receptor 2a in olfactory neuroblastomas: A new and distinctive feature
Human Pathology Jun 03, 2018
Czapiewski P, et al. - Considering scarce data regarding somatostatin-based treatment and the cellular expression of somatostatin receptors (SSTR) in Olfactory neuroblastomas (ONBs), researchers investigated the immunohistochemical expression of SSTR 2A and 5 in a cohort of 40 ONBs. They identified SSTR2A expression in 30/40 (75%) olfactory neuroblastomas, in low and high grade tumors. Positive staining was not evident in any of the 40 sinonasal carcinomas, 6 lymphomas, 3 rhabdomyosarcomas and 3 Ewing sarcomas. In the differential diagnosis between olfactory neuroblastoma and other sinonasal tumors, SSTR2A seems to be a promise marker. Potential response to SSTR analog therapy could be assessed via SSTR2A expression in olfactory neuroblastoma.
