Frequency, treatment, evolution, and factors associated with the presence of tracheobronchial stenoses in granulomatosis with polyangiitis: Retrospective analysis of a case series from a single respiratory referral center
Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism May 24, 2018
Marroquín-Fabián E, et al. - Experts ascertained the frequency, characteristics, and treatment of tracheobronchial stenoses (TBS) in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) at their institution, a national referral centre for respiratory diseases. Results demonstrated that TBS predominantly affected females, most patients showed limited GPA. At a mean of 29 months after diagnosis of GPA, TBS appeared. Dysphonia, stridor, and dyspnea were the main symptoms. Tracheal involvement was seen in all TBS patients and 12 additional bronchial stenoses. Rhinosinusal, musculoskeletal, ocular, pulmonary, renal, mucocutaneous, neurological were other accompanying manifestations by organ/system. They also evaluated the factors related to TBS development in GPA. Findings suggested that TBS could arise at any stage of the disease as these are a serious complication of GPA. The unmet needs were timely diagnosis plus optimal treatment and follow-up.
