Frequency of ventricular arrhythmias and other rhythm abnormalities in children and young adults with the Marfan syndrome
American Journal of Cardiology Jul 23, 2018
Mah DY, et al. - Researchers used the data from the Pediatric Heart Network randomized trial of atenolol vs losartan in Marfan syndrome (MFS) (6 months–25 years old, aortic root (AR) diameter z-score>3.0, no prior aortic surgery/dissection) to determine the prevalence of arrhythmias in children with MFS and their link to clinical/echocardiographic factors. They carried out baseline 24-hour ambulatory ECG monitoring. They reported a rare occurrence of ventricular ectopy (VE) and supraventricular ectopy in this cohort. They also observed an association of VE with larger BSA-adjusted left ventricular size. For risk stratification in select MFS patients, possible utility of routine ambulatory ECG monitoring was suggested.
