Frequency of metabolic syndrome and associated factors in institutionalized elderly individuals
Clinical Interventions in Aging Dec 06, 2018
Sales MC, et al. - In this cross-sectional study involving 202 institutionalized elderly individuals, researchers assessed the frequency of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its associated factors. They used National Cholesterol Education Program – Adult Treatment Panel III criteria for MS diagnoses. They verified sociodemographic, clinical, and lifestyle factor associations with MS using logistic regression. According to findings, a higher occurrence of MS was observed among females and individuals with longer age-adjusted institutionalization time, those with higher concentrations of immunologic biomarkers, and those with a dietary intake consisting of higher energy and fiber and lower total fat.
