Frequency of germline mutations in cancer susceptibility genes in malignant mesothelioma
Journal of Clinical Oncology Aug 29, 2018
Panou V, et al. - In patients with malignant mesothelioma (MM), the prevalence and clinical prognosticators of germline cancer susceptibility mutations were investigated. A total of 198 patients with pleural, peritoneal, and tunica vaginalis MM were included. Targeted capture and next-generation sequencing of 85 cancer susceptibility genes on germline DNA, was performed. The presence of germline mutations in cancer susceptibility genes were found in a significant share of patients with MM, especially in those with peritoneal MM, minimal asbestos exposure, young age, and a second cancer diagnosis, the most common being BAP1 mutations. Overall, these findings supported clinical germline genetic testing for patients with MM.
