Frequency of food allergy in school‐aged children in eight European countries – The EuroPrevall‐iFAAM birth cohort
Allergy Apr 01, 2020
Grabenhenrich L, Trendelenburg V, Bellach J, et al. - In the present study, the researchers estimated the frequency of food allergy (FA) and sensitization against food allergens in primary school children in eight European countries. An online parental questionnaire, clinical visits including structured interviews and skin prick tests (SPT) were used to perform a follow-up assessment of a multi-center European birth cohort at age 6-10. Six thousand one hundred five children registered in this school‐age follow‐up (57.8% of 10,563 recruited at birth). The prevalence of FA was lower than predicted in primary school children in eight European countries, even though parents of this cohort have become particularly aware of allergic reactions to food. There was moderate variation among centers that impeded valid regional comparisons.
