Frequency of complete atrioventricular block complicating ST-elevation myocardial infarction in a patient undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention
Cardiology Jul 25, 2018
Chera HH, et al. - In ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients undergoing rapid reperfusion with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), researchers determined the rate and risk factors for complete atrioventricular block (CAVB) by comparing patient characteristics, procedural characteristics, and in-hospital data between patients with and without CAVB. They found that, relative to data from the thrombolytic era, an attenuated incidence and in-hospital mortality rate of CAVB was evident in patients with STEMI who underwent primary PCI. Faster flow recovery in the infarct-related artery attained with PCI was suggested to be the possible reason.
