Abela GS, et al. – The clinicians aimed to assess the presence of cholesterol crystals (CCs) during acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and associated myocardial injury, inflammation, and arterial blood flow before and after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). They concluded that following PCI, the presence of large CC clusters was correlated with increased inflammation (IL–1β), increased arterial narrowing and diminished reflow.
