Frequency of bleeding complications after percutaneous core needle biopsy and the association with aspirin usage and length of aspirin discontinuation
American Journal of Roentgenology Apr 25, 2019
Potretzke TA, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers reported major bleeding frequency following percutaneous image-guided core biopsy and its association with aspirin usage and duration of prebiopsy aspirin abstinence. If data on aspirin use were missing (n = 633), patients were excluded. There were 30,333 biopsies in 21,938 subjects in the study. Investigators observed that the use of aspirin on the biopsy day showed the greatest risk increase. Significant complications of bleeding after biopsy remain rare even among patients with recent use of aspirin, although shorter prebiopsy abstinence duration increases the risk of bleeding, most significantly if aspirin is taken on the day of the biopsy.
