Frequency of appropriate and low risk non-cardiac preoperative stress testing across medical specialties
The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 10, 2018
Peterson B, et al. - Researchers performed this study at their institution involving asymptomatic patients to determine the frequency of rarely appropriate and low-risk preoperative stress testing across medical specialties when appropriate use criteria and two different perioperative risk models were applied. They reviewed preoperative stress tests for non-cardiac surgeries. Findings showed a broad overuse of preoperative stress testing in asymptomatic patients. A multispecialty approach is needed to develop and implement interventions aimed at attenuating rarely appropriate and low-risk preoperative stress testing.
