Frequency, intensity and localization of pain as risk factors for frailty in older adults
Age and Aging Oct 16, 2018
Rodríguez-Sánchez I, et al. - Authors assessed the separate effect of the frequency, intensity, and location of pain on frailty risk and its possible mechanisms. Participants included 1,505 individuals who were followed 2012-2015 in Spain. They noted that a higher pain score was associated with higher risk of exhaustion and low physical activity (2/5 Fried criteria) as well as a worse score in all FI domains. Findings suggested an association of frequency, intensity, and location of pain with a higher risk of frailty. Pain-associated morbidity was found to be partially explained by the study associations.
