Frequency and significance of high-degree atrioventricular block and sinoatrial node dysfunction in patients with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction
The American Journal of Cardiology Aug 24, 2018
Misumida N, et al. - Among patients with a primary diagnosis of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) or non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) between 2010 to 2014 in the National Inpatient Sample database, researchers compared the characteristics and outcomes of conduction disorders. Two categories of conduction disorders were considered: high-degree AV block (HDAVB), consisting of complete AV block or Mobitz type II second-degree AV block and sinoatrial node dysfunction (SND). They found that, the NSTEMI cohort more commonly had SND vs HDAVB, in contrast to the predominance of HDAVB observed in the STEMI cohort. Having undergone pacemaker implantation, which was suggestive of lower rates of spontaneous resolution of HDAVB, was reported for about one-third of patients who developed HDAVB following NSTEMI vs STEMI patients.
