Frequency and predictors of post-stroke delirium in PRospective Observational POLIsh Study (PROPOLIS)

Journal of Neurology Feb 13, 2018

Pasinska P, et al. - The aim of this prospective study was to build a predictive model for delirium and subsyndromal post-stroke delirium to determine the frequency and predictors of post-stroke delirium. Because of stroke, delirium occurred in one-fourth of admissions. Subsyndromal delirium was less prevalent and affected less than 1 per 10 patients. The rarest type of delirium was the hyperactive form. The factors best-predicting delirium were easily assessed in everyday practice. Their co-occurrence in patients with stroke ought to alert the treating physician of the high risk of delirium.
