Frailty predicts severe postoperative complications after elective colorectal surgery
The American Journal of Surgery Jul 19, 2018
Okabe H, et al. - Via enrolling 269 colorectal cancer patients older than 65 years undergoing curative surgery, researchers investigated if frailty affects severe postoperative complications in elective colorectal surgery. They defined clinical frailty (CF) as clinical frailty scale (CFS) ≥ 4. They assessed sarcopenia by measuring skeletal muscle area using computed tomography. As per findings, severe postoperative complications were robustly predicted using CF, but not sarcopenia, in patients with colorectal cancer.
