Frailty, hospital volume and failure to rescue after head and neck cancer surgery
The Laryngoscope Oct 20, 2017
Nieman CL, et al. - This trial evaluated if the variations in frailty rates elucidated the tie-up between volume and outcomes in head and neck cancer (HNCA) patients. It also determined if frailty confounded the connection between the failure to rescue and mortality. A correlation was brought to light between high-volume HNCA surgical care with a markedly lower odds of mortality. This was probably related to the variations in the response to and management of complications, instead of the differences in frailty or complication rates.
