Frailty as a prognostic factor for the critically ill older adult trauma patients
American Journal of Surgery Feb 27, 2019
Hamidi M, et al. - The impact of frailty was assessed in critically ill older adult trauma patients. Researchers calculated the modified frailty index (mFI) for all critically-ill trauma patients ≥65y, identified analyzing the ACS-TQIP(2010-2014). Among the identified 88,629 patients, 34,854 patients (frail: 17,427, non-frail: 17,427) were matched. Outcomes revealed higher morbidity and mortality among critically-ill frail patients. They suggest the possible utility of frailty as an objective measure to identify high-risk patients.
