Fragmented QRS as a predictor of in-hospital life-threatening arrhythmic complications in ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients

Annals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology Dec 08, 2018

Attachaipanich T, et al. - In this study including patients diagnosed with and treated for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) at Siriraj Hospital (Bangkok, Thailand) during 2009–2012, researchers assessed the prognostic value of fragmented QRS (fQRS) as a predictor of in-hospital life-threatening arrhythmic complications in STEMI patients. They also investigated the most appropriate duration of cardiac rhythm monitoring in STEMI patients with fQRS. They found that, in STEMI patients, in-hospital life-threatening arrhythmic events were independently predicted by the presence of fQRS complex on admission ECG. They also noted the possible need for cardiac rhythm monitoring longer than 24–48 hr in patients with fQRS because fQRS vs non-fQRS was found to be related to a longer time to last life-threatening arrhythmic event from admission.
