Fracture risk prediction using FRAX in patients following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Archives of Osteoporosis Apr 09, 2018
Pundole X, et al. - Researchers assessed the utility of the FRAX tool in predicting osteoporotic fractures in patients receiving a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in a retrospective chart review performed at MD Anderson Cancer Center. A greater probability of developing an osteoporotic fracture was seen in patients > 65 years of age, those with medium risk and high risk compared to those at low risk. In patients 50 to 65 years of age, similar trends were seen. The FRAX tool demonstrated modest predictive ability in patients greater than 50 years and could be used to aid in preventive treatment decision-making at the time of transplant.
