Fractional carbon dioxide laser vs trichloroacetic acid peel in the treatment of pseudo‐acanthosis nigricans

Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Apr 01, 2021

Eldeeb F, et al. - In the present study, the researchers tested the effectiveness and safety of fractional CO2 laser compared with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel in the treatment of pseudo‐acanthosis nigricans (pseudo‐AN). The researchers divided 40 patients with pseudo‐AN on the neck and axilla into two groups, each with 20 patients. TCA 20% peel was applied to the pigmented area in group (A), while fractional CO2 laser was used in the group (B). Both modalities were successful in the treatment of pseudo‐AN, but the therapeutic response was significantly higher in the fractional CO2 laser group compared with the TCA peel group. Adverse effects such as persistent erythema, post‐inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and burning sensation, were also statistically higher in the TCA group compared with the laser group. The fractional CO2 laser is a promising treatment choice for pseudo‐AN that is both effective and well-tolerated.
