Humphreys KL, et al. - Researchers undertook the Bucharest Early Intervention Project to investigate the effects of foster care as an alternative to institutional care for abandoned infants in Romanian institutions. They gained causal evidence suggesting that placing children into families following severe deprivation increased the likelihood of adaptive functioning in early adolescence.
