Food-specific IgE and IgG antibodies in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps: A case–control study
ENT Journal Sep 30, 2019
Veloso-Teles R, et al. - Among 33 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and 31 controls without CRS, researchers compared serum levels of food-specific immunoglobulin G (IgG) and IgE antibodies. According to this prospective case-control study, food allergy does not play a significant role in CRSwNP etiopathogenesis, either through IgE-mediated mechanisms or through IgG-mediated hypersensitivity. In addition, in patients with CRSwNP, suppression was observed in the development of IgG sensitization against food allergens, which may be linked to deviated IgG responses against other important targets (eg, airborne particles). This theory is supported by the reality that in individuals with CRSwNP an IgG1 subclass switch was observed and its values were negatively linked with the sum of food-specific concentration values of IgG.
