Food allergy-related bullying and associated peer dynamics among Black and White children in FORWARD study
Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Nov 06, 2020
Brown D, Negris O, Gupta R, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to explore bullying experiences of Black and White children with food allergy (FA), as well as associations with peer relationships, anxiety and school policies. Surveys were administered to parents of 252 children with physician-diagnosed FA registered in the multi-site FORWARD cohort. Surveys evaluated demographics, atopic disease, bullying victimization, and school FA management practices and policies. Findings suggested that bullying due to FA is common and caregivers, medical professionals and school administrators can help mitigate bullying by screening for bullying and by endorsing and educating school policies.
