Focused update on cardiopulmonary resuscitation: Utility of rescue breaths
The Journal of Pediatrics Feb 28, 2018
Antoon JW - The intention of the authors was to determine if cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with chest compressions and rescue breaths were superior to compression-only CPR in infants and children. Two studies did not exhibit any variation in the survival or neurological outcomes in children 1-18 years, whereas 2 studies revealed that CPR with rescue breaths presented better outcomes in this age group. Based on the results, it was suggested that CPR with rescue breaths ought to be offered to infants and children with cardiac arrest (compression-only CPR if bystanders were unwilling or unable to provide rescue breaths.)
