Roos DS, et al. - The association between flavor perception and risk of malnutrition in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) was determined. A minor, yet notable association between olfactory function and body mass index (BMI) was demonstrated, but not for gustatory function and BMI. Hyposmia, but not hypogeusia, possibly served as a contributory factor to weight loss in Parkinson’s disease, thereby increasing the risk of malnutrition.
