Five-year outcomes of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: A comparison between adults and adolescents

Khidir N, et al. - Adolescents and adults undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) were compared regarding its long-term effects on obesity and associated comorbidities. At 5 years, adolescents showed an increase in the percentage of total weight loss, while it remained almost the same in adults. At 1 year, about 68.2% of adults and 62.5% of adolescents were cured of diabetes though, at 5 years, 13% of diabetic adults showed relapse but no relapse was observed among adolescents. Adults and adolescents displayed comparable weight loss results with LSG; adolescents showed better results.
