Five-year outcomes of a randomized clinical trial comparing bone level implants with either submerged or transmucosal healing

Journal of Clinical Periodontology Oct 20, 2017

Flores J, et al. - Using a different implant placement protocol (submerged vs. transmucosal), this study assessed long-term hard and soft tissue peri-implant tissue stability of bone level implants. The reported 5-years outcomes were similar between bone level implants with submerged or transmucosal healing protocols. Furthermore, it was noted that when bone level implants were placed in non-molar positions for single tooth replacement, optimal clinical and radiographic outcomes were afforded by both protocols.
