Five-year outcomes in cardiac surgery patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing concomitant surgical ablation vs no ablation: The long-term follow-up of the PRAGUE-12 study
Heart Rhythm May 17, 2019
Osmancik P, et al. - Researchers report the long-term (5 years) follow-up findings of the PRAGUE-12 study (a prospective, randomized clinical trial) that evaluated cardiac surgery (coronary artery disease, valve surgery) with surgical ablation (SA) for AF vs cardiac surgery alone (control; no ablation). A composite of cardiovascular death, stroke, hospitalization for heart failure or severe bleeding was considered as primary endpoint. A recurrence of AF was the secondary endpoint. Findings revealed that the incidence of stroke and AF recurrences were significantly lower in the SA group, and stayed significant even after adjusting for all covariables including CAD.
