First-line selective internal radiation therapy in patients with uveal melanoma metastatic to the liver
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine Mar 06, 2020
Ponti A, Denys A, Digklia A, et al. - Researchers tried to find out the safety and efficacy of selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) as first-line therapy in individuals with uveal melanoma metastatic to the liver. A retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected cohort was conducted to enroll a total of 22 individuals treated with first-line SIRT. They recorded biochemical and clinical toxicities. Tumor's response was defined according to the European Association for the Study of Liver Disease (EASL) criteria. The univariate and multivariate analysis measured predictive factors of survival. Applying the Kaplan–Meier method with the log-rank test, overall survival was estimated. First-line SIRT was found to be safe and gave promising results in patients with uveal melanoma metastatic to the liver. The results of this study indicated that subsequent systemic and liver-directed locoregional therapies ameliorated survival, indicating the potential for improved outcomes with combination approaches.
