First-degree family history of breast cancer is associated with prostate cancer risk: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Cancer Sep 11, 2019
Ren ZJ, Cao DH, Zhang Q, et al. - Via conducting a meta-analysis, researchers investigated how first-degree family history of female breast cancer is related to prostate cancer risk. They included 18 studies involving 17,004,892 individuals in the meta-analysis. Outcomes suggest that risk of prostate cancer is higher in men with a family history of female breast cancer in first-degree relatives compared with those having no such history; this includes the risk of lethal prostate cancer. These findings may have implication in guiding screening, earlier detection, and treatment of men with a family history of female breast cancer in first-degree relatives.
