Pear VA, et al. - Researchers examined within-state variation in firearm mortality in California using Multiple Cause of Death Data Files. Considerable intrastate variation was identified in firearm mortality in California. No significant difference in rates between urban and rural counties by 2015 was observed due to a decline in firearm homicides in metropolitan areas. The highest rate of firearm homicide was observed among non-Hispanic black men, however, Hispanic men showed the greatest number of deaths.
