Finasteride use and risk of male breast cancer: A case–control study using individual-level registry data from Denmark, Finland, and Sweden
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Apr 25, 2019
Kjærulff TM, et al. - In this study with all men (≥35 years) from Denmark (1995–2014), Finland (1997–2013), and Sweden (2005–2014), researchers investigated for a link between finasteride use and male breast cancer following accounting for potential confounders. From the cancer registries, they identified cases with incident male breast cancer. They matched the cases with 50 density-sampled, age, and country-matched male population controls per case. Using the prescription registries, they obtained exposure information on finasteride use. Overall 1,005 male breast cancer cases and 43,058 controls were analyzed. Association between finasteride use and male breast cancer was not evident in this study.
