Financial hardship and quality of life among African American and white cancer survivors: The role of limiting care due to cost
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention May 10, 2019
Hastert TA, et al. - In a diverse population of cancer survivors, researchers estimated if limiting care because of cost had any impact on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and investigated if the link between financial hardship and HRQOL was mediated by limiting care. They used a hospital-based cohort of breast, colorectal, lung, and prostate cancer survivors (Detroit Research on Cancer Survivors pilot) and analyzed data from 988 participants (579 African American, 409 white). Findings revealed the association of both financial hardship and limiting care due to cost with lower HRQOL among diverse cancer survivors. Limiting care due to cost partially explained this link.
