Filial discrepancy and mortality among community-dwelling older adults: A prospective cohort study
Aging and Mental Health Aug 22, 2019
Li M, et al. - Given the mixed evidence regarding the influence of the parent-child relations on older adults’ longevity, researchers examined how filial discrepancy affect mortality risk among US Chinese older adults aged 60 and above in the Greater Chicago area. From a prospective cohort study, they included 3,021 participants. Compared with other filial discrepancy domains, care expectation was least fulfilled while the financial expectation was better fulfilled. A higher risk of mortality was observed among older adults with respect expectation above receipt compared with those with no respect discrepancy. Compared with no greet discrepancy, experiencing a higher greet expectation than receipt was correlated with a greater risk of mortality. Lower risk of mortality was observed with older adults with care receipt above expectation.
