Fibroscan reliably rules out advanced liver fibrosis and significant portal hypertension in alcoholic patients
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Apr 10, 2019
Salavrakos M, et al. - In this investigation, researchers assessed the accuracy of Fibroscan in alcoholic patients for the diagnosis of fibrosis and clinically significant portal hypertension. There were a total of 118 patients included. Investigators found that histology and hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) were well correlated with Fibroscan. They concluded that Fibroscan is a precise non-invasive method for alcoholic patients to diagnose fibrosis. Significant fibrosis and varices are likely to be excluded from transient elastography (TE) values below 11 and 30 kPa. Steatosis, alcoholic hepatitis, sinus fibrosis, cholestasis, and high transaminases had no effect on TE values.
