Fibrinogen level on admission is a predictive marker of the need for massive blood transfusion after pelvic fracture

The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Jul 02, 2019

Notani N, et al. - Researchers examined the predictive value of coagulation biomarkers for the necessity for massive transfusion (MT) in patients with pelvic fractures. They divided patients who were treated for pelvic fractures in their hospital into 2 groups: MT group comprising 22 patients and the non-MT group comprising 78 patients. The transfusion of packed red blood cells ≧10 units caused by bleeding within 24 h after admission was defined as MT. Independent predictors for MT were lower sBP and Fbg levels. The optimal cut-off values were ≦109 mmHg and 193.0 mg/dL for sBP and Fbg levels, respectively.
