Fever characteristics and risk of serious bacterial infection in febrile infants
The Journal of Emergency Medicine Aug 12, 2019
Davis J, et al. - Performing secondary analysis of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network study on febrile infants, researchers examined how various fever characteristics influence the risk of serious bacterial infection (SBI) in febrile infants. Among 4,821 included patients, there was a significant correlation of height of fever with the risk of SBI, with an odds ratio of 1.5. A less association of duration and location of fever with the risk of SBI was observed, but the risk of SBI had a small association with a fever taken at the enrolling emergency department vs at a non-health care location.
