Feasibility and outcomes of renal mass biopsy for anatomically complex renal tumors
Urology Aug 12, 2021
Masic S, Strother M, Kidd LC, et al. - Renal mass biopsies (RMB) should not be postponed in patients with anatomically complex renal masses because RMB in such cases offer an excellent diagnostic yield, although lower than non-complex lesions, which could improve clinical decision-making.
Institutional renal tumor database was used.
A total 306 RBMs were included, 179 complex and 127 non-complex.
Complex lesions were less likely to have an adequate biopsy, and to be concordant with final surgical pathology from an oncologic standpoint.
Only male gender was related to biopsy adequacy.
The overall sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 93%, 93%, and 93%, respectively.
Biopsy outcomes did not differ significantly over time during study span.
