Fear-avoidance and pelvic floor muscle function are associated with pain intensity in women with vulvodynia
Clinical Journal of Pain Aug 20, 2018
Benoit-Piau J, et al. - In this study including 173 women diagnosed with provoked vestibulodynia (PVD), researchers determined the link between fear-avoidance variables, pelvic floor muscle (PFM) function, pain intensity, as well as the moderator impact of partner support. They reported a significant association of pain catastrophizing with pain intensity, partner support, and PFM flexibility. Fear-avoidance variables and PFM function partly explained the symptomatology of PVD. PFM function played a significant role and was important in the pathophysiology of PVD. They also noted that partner support moderated the link between pain intensity and catastrophizing. No significant association of catastrophizing with pain was observed among women with high partner support.
