Fatigue severity in anti-nuclear antibody-positive individuals does not correlate with pro-inflammatory cytokine levels or predict imminent progression to symptomatic disease
Arthritis Research & Therapy Nov 14, 2019
Hafiz W, Nori R, Bregasi A, et al. - Anti-nuclear antibody (ANA)-negative healthy controls (HCs) and ANA-positive people with no criteria, at least one clinical criteria (undifferentiated connective tissue disease, undifferentiated connective tissue disease), or meeting systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease (SARD) classification criteria were enrolled in order to ascertain when fatigue develops and whether its presence relates with inflammatory factors or prognosticates disease progression. It was discovered that fatigue is prevalent in ANA+ people lacking adequate criteria for a SARD diagnosis, relates with fibromyalgia-related symptoms, and is not related to inflammation or predictive of disease progression.
