Fatigue is common and predicted by female gender and sleep disturbance in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Aug 30, 2020
Erol K, et al. - Researchers assessed fatigue, its drivers in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), as well as compared fatigue among patients vs healthy controls. This study involved 103 patients with CSU and 35 age and gender matched healthy controls. No significant links were found between disease activity, disease control scores, and Fatigue Severity Score. Higher CRP levels were detected in fatigued patients with CSU. Significant predictors of fatigue in CSU patients, as shown in regression analyses, were female gender and presence of disturbed sleep. Overall, CSU patients commonly experienced fatigue, which was acknowledged as an important symptom in these patients. Findings showed adverse impact of fatigue on quality of life. Evaluating fatigue, particularly in those female gender patients and in those having sleep disturbance, was concluded as important while assessing patients with CSU.
