Fatigue in young people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy
Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology Apr 18, 2019
El-Aloul B, et al. - In children and adolescents with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), researchers characterized fatigue in DMD from patients’ and parents’ perspectives and examined risk factors for fatigue using multicentre, cross-sectional study design. Through the Canadian Neuromuscular Disease Registry, 71 patients were identified and their parents completed questionnaires. Child self-report and parent proxy report evaluated subjective fatigue using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Multidimensional Fatigue Scale. In paediatric DMD, sleep disturbance and depressive symptoms were associated significantly with fatigue. Fatigue was not associated with physical activity and musculoskeletal, respiratory, and cardiac function.
