Fasting plasma GLP-1 associates with overweight/obesity and cardiometabolic risk factors in children and adolescents
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Feb 23, 2021
Stinson SE, Jonsson AE, Lund MAV, et al. - Researchers investigated whether fasting GLP-1 differs in children and adolescents with overweight/obesity vs a population-based reference, and if levels are predictive of cardiometabolic risk factors. They conducted analyses on the basis of a cross-sectional study, The Danish Childhood Obesity Data- and Biobank, incorporating children and adolescents, 6-19 years old, from an obesity clinic group (n = 1,978) and from a population-based group (n = 2,334). According to findings, elevated fasting plasma total GLP-1 levels were observed in relation to overweight/obesity in children and adolescents, and these levels predicted higher cardiometabolic risk factors.
