Fasting experience of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus on insulin therapy during Ramadan: VISION Ramadan substudy
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Mar 03, 2019
Jabbar A, et al. - In the VISION study, researchers described the characteristics and fasting experience of a subgroup of patients who started insulin therapy and chose to fast during Ramadan, and discussed the VISION Ramadan sub-study data in previous Ramadan studies. During Ramadan 2014 and 2015, fasting data were collected in this VISION Ramadan sub-study. Data were collected from 357 patients who decided to fast during Ramadan. Data reported that mean HbA1c was 10.1%, duration of diabetes was 8.8 years, and mean BMI was 30 kg/m2 at baseline. During Ramadan, all patients with non-missing data received fasting advice. Investigators observed that most patients fasted for the entire month of Ramadan and about one-third of patients fasted outside of Ramadan.
