Fascia iliaca blockade with the addition of liposomal bupivacaine vs plain bupivacaine for perioperative pain management following hip arthroscopy
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy Feb 21, 2018
Purcell RL, et al. - The researchers sought to assess the addition of liposomal bupivacaine to fascia iliaca blockade as compared to plain bupivacaine for perioperative pain management following hip arthroscopy. Findings showed that no significant differences were noted in the postoperative pain scores or PACU opioid consumption, despite the advertised benefits of prolonged postoperative analgesia using liposomal bupivacaine. It was also supported that with the use of multimodal analgesia including fascia iliaca blockade, acceptable pain scores are successfully achieved at all time periods despite the type of pain medication administered.
