Family history of coronary artery disease and adverse clinical outcomes in patients suffering from acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
Coronary Artery Disease Dec 07, 2018
Preisler Y, et al. - In this historical cohort study consisting of all patients admitted to cardiac intensive care unit for a first ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) between 2007 and 2016, researchers assessed the link between positive family history (FHx+) of coronary artery disease (CAD) and clinical outcomes. They compared patients with or without a FHx+ of CAD by performing univariate and multivariate analyses. They attenuated the variations in baseline characteristics by using propensity score matching in a further analysis. They observed an association of FHx+ with better short- and long-term outcomes in patients with STEMI. A prediction model for patients admitted to cardiac ICU may be developed by understanding the rule of FHx in patients with STEMI.
