Familial colorectal cancer risk in half-siblings and siblings: Nationwide cohort study
BMJ Mar 20, 2019
Tian Y, et al. - In this bidirectional cohort study, the Swedish population born after 1931 was studied to assess the risk of colorectal cancer among family members of those with colorectal cancer. Authors observed the overall lifetime cumulative risk of colorectal cancer of 7% and 6%, in respective siblings and half-siblings of patients, representing a 1.7-fold increment over the risk in those without any family history of colorectal cancer. They observed an higher risk for a combination of family history in one affected second-degree relative and an affected first-degree relative (or even another second-degree relative).
