Familial association of lung cancer with liver cancer in first-degree relatives
Cancer Management and Research Jul 05, 2019
Xu CR, et al. - Researchers quantified the magnitude of the high risk of lung cancer with family history in a case-based study, which could be more precise as compared to a population-based investigation. Participants were 1373 individuals. Compared to the control group, a higher risk of lung cancer was observed in individuals with lung cancer family history. Also, a higher risk of lung cancer was seen in subjects with a family history of liver cancer vs the control group while no significant difference was found within the subjects with a family history of colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer or breast cancer. Compared to males, females with a family history of lung cancer or liver cancer had a higher risk of lung cancer. Higher risks of lung cancer as a manifestation of the familial aggregation of lung cancer and liver cancer was proved in this study. This lends support to the hypothesis that common familial predisposition accounts for lung cancer and liver cancer.
