Fallopian tube lesions in women at high risk for ovarian cancer: A multicenter study

Cancer Prevention Research Oct 26, 2018

Visvanathan K, et al. - In this multicenter study, researchers identified risk and/or protective factors related to serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC)/serous tubal intraepithelial lesions (STILs) and described p53 signatures in the fallopian tube. For this investigation, they reviewed the fallopian tubes and ovaries of 479 high-risk women (aged ≥30 years) who had bilateral risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy for invasive cancer/STICs/STILs. No risk or protective factor was significantly related to STICs/STILs, though a link was found between diagnosis of invasive cancer and older age. It was noted that women with p53 signatures in the fimbria were older vs women with signatures in the remaining tube. The study findings suggested disease progression may be predicted by having multiple lesions in the fimbria.
