Failure of concurrent chemoradiotherapy for organ preservation in laryngeal cancer: Survival outcomes and recurrence patterns
ENT Journal Apr 19, 2019
Aydil U, et al. - Researchers reviewed clinical records of the patients who had definitive concurrent chemoradiation (CRT) for laryngeal cancer with the aim to determine the failure patterns and the survival outcomes in laryngeal cancer patients who had recurrence after concurrent CRT. They identified 48 failures and realized 18.0 months (range 2-72; standard deviation: 15.6) of mean time period between the first diagnosis of disease and the diagnosis of recurrence. The CRT failures was correlated with unfavorable survival outcomes. They recommend practicing caution while selecting patients to minimize failures. Aggressive disease course was reported in patients with systemic recurrence.
